Signs Your Baseball Glove Needs Maintenance
Your glove will usually tell you when something is wrong. You just have to know what to look for.
The leather feels stiff or crunchy
This is a sign the leather is drying out. Conditioning should be done before cracks form.
Loss of shape or a floppy pocket
This often comes from over conditioning or oiling. The glove may need reshaping and proper drying.
Surface cracking or visible dryness
Once cracks start, damage is already happening. Conditioning can slow it down but cannot fully reverse it.
Laces look dry or frayed
Dry laces snap easily. Replacing laces early can save the glove from bigger damage.
The glove feels slick or hard to control
Built up dirt, sweat, and old product can reduce grip. Cleaning followed by light conditioning usually fixes this.
If you notice any of these, it's better to act early rather than wait.
